Why Do You Need a Poster Template?

Saturday, September 13th, 2008
For those who are not as aware of the concept, a template for any advertisement is the basic layout before any of the text or images are put in. This will usually deal with having various markers to indicate where information is going to go, so when you do need to design your advertising all you have to do is fill in the blanks.

Now, for some forms of marketing you definitely want to always use a good template. Postcards and flyers both require you to make quite a few of them rather quickly, so a template will speed up this process by making sure that you can get them out quickly. Brochures can be long and complicated to design, so a template will make it easier to make future brochures.

Now we come to poster templates and whether or not you should make use of them. My intention here is not to come to one set conclusion and say that is right, because each company will have to decide this for themselves.

The argument against a template is that posters are not designed as often, nor are they quite as difficult to design. I would consider them a more blown up version of a flyer, and the most important part of a poster is likely going to be the images and the text, which will change each poster anyways. So are those poster templates going to save you much time or money in the long run?

If you are only making a single poster a year and leaving it up for awhile, or if you are making really unique posters that do not work well with templates you might want to avoid using them.

Now for the argument for templates, a poster template can save you time no matter what. If you make a few initial poster templates than you have that much time cut off the design stage for future poster designs. Sometimes even the smallest time saver can be quite useful in the long run no matter how many posters you are making.

Also, if you are not making very many posters you can use the same templates that many more times. The further you space out using a template the more use you can get out of it, because no one will notice that the posters have the same basic design.

Finally, because the images and the text are so important, people are once again less likely to notice that you have a template.

Does all of this mean you should try to always use a template? I am not going to say either way. I will say instead that you should definitely understand what templates are and what they can do. That way if you do need to use them they are there for you.

Joomla Templates and Joomla Tutorials - a Beginners Guide

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008
An excellent way to quickly create a Web site using pre-designed website Templates. You can easily find free or paid templates on many web sites on the web.

Free Templates

if you are really determined to get free templates, a better way to do this is to use those who come for free software with all that you use. Word Press or Joomla, for example, has very clean, attractive templates. But you do, though; you must realize that freedom will never be unique templates: your site will be just like hundreds of other Web sites out there that are the same template free you did.

Cheap Templates

once you begin to enter the territory paid for templates, things began to investigate. The idea behind the sites that sell templates is that they can pay the designers interest rate, do something good once, and then resell it as many times as they like for a relatively low price. This option allows designers to be paid for as many templates they want, without ever having to deal with customers, and it allows customers to buy and use templates for a price significantly lower than what they were used to pay for something much more serious-T and they can see in advance.

Exclusive Templates

after seeing how some people do not like the other sites being able to use their design, but many sites started selling exclusive templates of those sold only once, to a site, then removed. They met with a runaway hit on their hands.

In this way, designers are free to create something great, and customers can consider whether they like it or watching hundreds of alternatives if they do not. It takes all the uncertainty and negotiation at both ends, and both the designer and leaves the customer much happier than what they would have been. Of course, if there is something you want little changed; most sites are pleased to get the designer to do it for you for a small extra charge.

Putting Text in Templates

once you have a template is the only step is to take your text and put it in style. The designer may be able to help you with this, or you might prefer to add to what the template of the software you plan to use for your content and navigation can be added automatically.

Website Templates: a Web Designer’s Secret Weapon

Monday, September 8th, 2008
Website templates can be an excellent tool when building a new web site; a tool that can speed up the production schedule, improve the quality of the final web site and just make the whole process of building a web site much easier.

A fast way to build quality web sites

Now that the web has matured, the experts have discovered what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to web site design. Out of this experience come web templates; web site designs that have been tried and tested.

As with building a house, there is no longer a need to reinvent the wheel with every project - today you can select a web design template and get your website online fast!

Don’t reinvent the wheel!

As a software architect and programmer, I can tell you that a core rule in that field is to not reinvent the wheel. This basically means that if someone else has built it already, you should use it! You are wasting your time and money trying to recreate things from scratch.

Fortunately you can now select from a huge collection of proven web site styles that you can use ‘out of the box’ or use the web site template as the foundation to your own creation.

In the early years we would create all our web sites from scratch; this was a slow, tedious and expensive process. Besides trying to make the web pages look good, you had to figure out how to make it work with the entire browser and within the limits of your potential visitors’ computers:

o Will the web site end up being fast enough for people on slow modems?

o Will it work with Netscape and Internet Explorer?

o Can we fit all the required sections so it works in an 800×600 screen resolution?

The web site designer’s point of view

If you try hard enough, you can probably come up with some funky style for a page with for example, a new wacky navigational menu. The problem is that everybody expects to see a web page layout follow certain basic rules; navigation sections have to be arranged in a certain way, links have to look a certain way … being consistent makes the web site easier for the visitor to use.

No worries, you can still be original within the context of a template; people do it all the time. The web site template serves as the framework for designers, where it eliminates the grueling structural work and frees you to develop the subtlety of the web site’s style.

With so many website templates to choose from these days, you are almost guaranteed to find the basic style and layout you are looking for. You can then build off of that, speeding up the process - makes good sense for you and your clients!

The business point of view

Website templates save you time and money; the production cycle of a web site project is at least cut in half when you use a web site template. Another advantage of using templates is that you can show the web site designers what you want rather than trying to describe it to them. The reverse is also true where the designer can show the client several templates that he/she can choose from - this alone will always be a great tool!

I have also found over the years that most people don’t really know what they want until they actually see it. Templates allows the business owner to identify what they really want in a web site and actually buy it right there and then. They can hand the template off to the web designer for the personalized touches.

Even the great artists develop a ‘template’ of their own

This is just a side note, but it may be worth considering:

Artists typically become known for their style, this style is consistently applied in their work and it defines their careers. Picasso is one such artist; if you look at any of his paintings, you can clearly see that it’s a Picasso.

Other examples are found in the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones; you may have never heard a particular song, but their styles are so well defined you instantly know whose song it is.

An artist’s style is really just a template of what works for them. In a sense, an accomplished artist creates his or her own design template and then applies it to their work.
